How To Properly Clean Off Your Car, Lehigh Valley

Cleaning off your car in the winter is a fact of life. No one is excited to do it. No one enjoys standing out in the cold or the precipitation while they are doing it. But, the simple fact is that cleaning off your car of snow, ice, and other debris as the result of winter weather can literally save lives.

Every year, people are hurt or worse on the roadways as the result of someone not cleaning off their vehicle properly leading to ice flying off their car and striking another.

Get in the habit of cleaning off your car now! Here’s now.

  1. Survey the situation: Is it just snow? Is it ice? Is it not even worth driving in the current conditions? Take a second and see what you’re getting yourself into.
  2. Make sure you have tools available: Pretty much every gas station is going to have brushes or ice scrapers or both. Don’t wait until it starts snowing to buy one. Get one now and leave it in your car.
  3. Start from the top: Clean the top of your car first. It’s the area most people either forget or neglect, so do it first.
  4. Clear off all all windows and the sides as well: There’s no reason to have any windows still covered. Would you drive like that in the summer? All it does is make your more dangerous on the road to yourself and others.
  5. Scrape off all ice: Even if it’s just on the passenger side mirror, scrape it off. Clear your car off as completely as humanly possible.
  6. Check the roads again: Is it safe to drive?
  7. Be safe on the roadway.

Be safe out there this winter season and call us if you’re in a lockout situation! (484) 891-1922

Winter Driving Tips for the Lehigh Valley

It’s rather rare to have a winter in the Lehigh Valley without at least one good snowfall that causes businesses and schools to close. That being said, not everyone is prepared to drive when it snows. We put together a few tips to keep you safely on the road this winter season.

Stay Home: If you don’t need to go out, don’t. If you don’t feel safe driving, don’t. If you have an emergency, call 911. If you’re in a lockout situation, call us at 484-891-1922.

Drive SLOWLY: There’s no reason to drive quickly for really any reason in the snow.

Speed Up and Slow Down Slowly: Hopefully, you’re picking up a theme here. Whether you’re stopping or starting, you want to ease into it to avoid slipping and sliding.

Don’t Tailgate: One of the absolute worst things you can do while driving is to tailgate. That dangerous activity is even more dangerous during a snowfall. Give yourself at least five or six seconds between the car in front of you. Remember, if you slide into it, you may be the one who ends up at fault.

Don’t Force Up a Hill: Gathering speed to rush up a snow covered hill may seem like a logical step, but it can make your car much more unstable and increase your risk of running off the road.

Move Slowly Up a Hill and Don’t Stop: If you need to go over a hill, the best way is to maintain a constant speed and try not to break or accelerate quickly while going up it.

Be safe out there!

24/7 Emergency Locksmith Charity Spotlight

We wanted to take a minute to highlight a charity that we feel strongly about and have donated in support of.

If you’re so inclined, please take a moment to look at Zing’s account in Extra Life. He plays in support of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

From his profile: “I’ve pledged to play games and raise funds for kids at my local children’s hospital!

During high school I had some health issues that just made day to day life difficult. Whereas, it wasn’t anything serious or life threatening, it took a lot out of me to deal with growing up AND dealing with not feeling well.

I happily do this every year to help other kids, many of whom are dealing with far worse than I had to bear, have a better life! Please help out if you are able because no child should have to deal with anything other than growing up!”

Here’s how it works

  • Extra Life is a gaming and DIY fundraising platform supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

  • I’m joining thousands of gamers, dedicating a day to play games and raise funds from friends like you.

  • 100% of the donations go to my local children’s hospital.

Give his profile a visit today!

So You Want to Become a Locksmith?

Locksmithing can be a very rewarding, competitive, and long-term career. It’s not for everyone (we are available 24 hours after all) but it is a skill that can provide you freedom and fun!

So, how do you do it? Well, we’ll let our buds at How To Become answer that for us…

Training to become a locksmith often involves a combination of classroom learning and hands-on experience. There are many locksmithing schools and training programs located across the country that offer both in-person and online courses. Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) maintains a list of approved training programs on its website, and this can be a good place to start if you are looking for a program.

Students in a locksmithing training program take courses in topics like key identification, key making, lock installation, lock picking, residential locks, commercial locks, automotive locks, electronic access locks, home and business security systems, master key systems, safe and vault locks, and high security locks. Students who complete in-person programs often have opportunities to put their learning into practice on the tools that locksmiths use. Online programs may provide students with tools that they can use to practice at home.

To gain additional hands-on experience, many locksmiths complete an apprenticeship or work as a trainee with an experienced locksmith. Not all locksmiths are willing to take on trainees or apprentices, but many are. An apprentice may perform tasks around the office or go out into the field with an experienced locksmith.

Visit their site to learn a bit more about it and good luck.

Call us If You Need a Locksmith During St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in in the Lehigh Valley

The Lehigh Valley area is known for its festivals. Local residents don’t waste any time getting right into the fun of partying as soon as St. Patrick’s Day comes around. Sure, there may be larger and crazier St. Patrick’s Days celebrations across the country, but the Lehigh Valley, specifically with Bethlehem and Allentown’s parades, is one of the best for family friendly fun.

The festivities get started on March 16, 2019 with the Parade of Shamrocks in downtown Bethlehem.

According to Celtic Classic (which organizes the parade), Downtown Bethlehem will be awash in green as Celtic Cultural Alliance hosts the 8th Annual Celtic Classic Parade of Shamrocks! The celebration will take place on Saturday, March 16, 2019. The parade steps off at 1:00 p.m., so get here early for the best viewing spots! The parade will kick-off at 10th Avenue & Broad Street. The parade route will continue east on Broad to Main Street and makes its way south on Main Street, ending under the Hill-To-Hill Bridge.

“We are honored to have your favorite local high school and middle school bands, community groups, pipe bands, dancing groups, local dignitaries, and businesses participate in the parade. Enjoy the festive celebration, then stay after the parade to enjoy some of the great restaurants and shops Bethlehem has to offer.”

The Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place on March 17 and should serve to continue the festivities throughout the weekend.

“The first known St. Patrick’s Parade was held in Allentown in the late 1860’s. Almost a century later, in 1955, what we know as the modern day Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Parade was organized by business and political leaders through the St. Patrick’s Day Observance Society. The Parade ran from 12th and Hamilton Streets to the Immaculate Conception Church on Ridge Avenue.”

No matter where you end up this St. Patrick’s Day Weekend, know that 24/7 Emergency Locksmith is there to help you if you find yourself locked out of your vehicle or residence. We’re available 24/7. Call us at (484) 891-1922.

Can Old Home Keys Be Remade by Your Locksmith?

If you are the owner of an older home, chances are many of the original hardware pieces could also still there. From light fixtures, trim, doors, and maybe even the original key that fits all of those old locks.

They sure don’t make stuff like they used to, so keeping those original elementals might be crucial to the aesthetic to the home. However, the odds that more than one of the original key is still floating around in a 100+ year home is pretty slim. But who wants to share a single key throughout the whole house? Sure, you might get lucky at your next flea market or antique store trip to find a potential old key, but that is unreliable at best.

So what do you do if you want some privacy? Sure you can simply add in a simple hook and eye, but that requires drilling into the antique door and frame. Another option is to replace the locking mechanisms in your doors, which could be challenge for a number of reasons and it could change the entire look of an antique door.

So what DO you do? Another option you might not have thought of would be to have another copy of that old key made! While the process can be a challenge, it can also help preserve the functionality of your home and preserve the originality of your home. The only thing required is to have a key to make a copy of first.

It’s also a good idea to have a professional give all of the old locks throughout your home a once over. Nothing would be more unpleasant than using your new key in a lock, only to have the worn pieces within the locking mechanism fail from age and a lack of use.

So if you have an older home, speak to us and we can assist in keeping those antique locks working great!

Within a short time your home will be even more historically accurate with some beautiful and functional original door locks that can give you privacy, safety, and will just be pretty cool to gloat about.

Why You Should Always Lock Your Doors (And Who Doesn’t)

You might think that locking your home doors is something that most Americans simply just do without even thinking about. The statistics, however, don’t quite bear this out.

According to SafeHome.org, there are some areas of the country where only 54 percent of respondents to a survey said that they lock their doors every single time they leave their home. The Northwest and Northeast were the most trusting (see the graphic) with the South having more than 80 percent of respondents saying that they lock their doors each and every time that they leave their home.

Locking your doors should be routine, but we understand how easy it is to either forget to lock or to neglect to lock when you feel that you’re only going to be away from home for a short period of time. Lock simply can’t do their job if they aren’t properly locked and it’s important that you instill that thought in the minds of yourself and everyone who shares your home with you.

Thank you to SafeHome.org for providing the images below that give a little bit more of an insight into those who lock and don’t lock their doors!

Safety Tips for The Great Allentown Fair

The Great Allentown Fair is the unofficial Lehigh Valley goodbye to summer. It announces the end of the summer festival season and its end ushers in thoughts of pumpkin patches and apple picking.

That doesn’t mean you should look past the Fair, however. It’s still a great place to take the family and always full with some incredible musical performances to cap off your summer. This year alone features Sugarland, 311 and Offspring, and Niall Horan.

Just as with absolutely any festival in the Lehigh Valley, there are always safety precautions to take even though the events themselves are generally some of the safest you can visit with your family.

Park legally and remember where you parked. Parking can sometimes be tricky at Lehigh Valley events and the Allentown Fair isn’t any exception. Make sure that you don’t park in a tow away zone, especially if you’re driving with your family. There will be many side lots run by private organizations that don’t make too much of a dent in your cotton candy budget. Drop a pin on your Google Maps or other app before you make the walk to the fairgrounds so you can find your car easily after you leave.

Lock Up. This goes without saying, but we can’t tell you the amount of posts we see on Facebook from people who simply don’t lock their vehicles. Lock up!

Be prepared to wait in traffic. The Allentown Fair doesn’t have the worst traffic due to many different roads in and out, but it’s still something to plan ahead for whether you’re heading in or out. Going at off peak hours (right as it opens during the week) is a great way to skip the crowds.

You’ll need cash, but don’t carry too much on you. Plan ahead what you think you’ll need throughout your trip and don’t bring much more than that.

Be sure to keep our phone number in your phone. Call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith at (484) 891-1922 if you’ve locked yourself out of your vehicle at the fair or lost your keys altogether. We’ll be there faster than a spin of a ferris wheel. (Well, we’re not sure exactly how fast that is, but we’ll be there in minutes.)

Have a fun and safe time at the fair!
