Ways to Avoid Locksmith Scams in the Lehigh Valley

We understand that not many people have a locksmith on speed dial. Is speed dial even a thing anymore?

Anyway, we know that people usually turn to a locksmith in a time of need and, sometimes, desperation. In those moments, it’s easier for a company to potentially take advantage of a consumer. Before you call a locksmith, here are a few tips.

  1. Check their reviews: It’s easier than ever to check a company’s reviews to see what the community feels about them. Give your locksmith a quick Google search before you give them a call!
  2. Get a cost estimate: Know what you’re dealing with before the locksmith arrives.
  3. Watch out for price fluctuations: If the locksmith gets to you and the price is suddenly different than it was quoted on the phone, it’s time to call a different locksmith. Don’t let them do the work.
  4. Don’t let them drill the lock right away: If a locksmith insists on drilling your home lock right away, be wary. Experienced locksmiths will go through multiple attempts before drilling a lock.

Those are a just a few tips. Go with your gut and call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith if you are in a bind!

24/7 Emergency Locksmith Charity Spotlight

We wanted to take a minute to highlight a charity that we feel strongly about and have donated in support of.

If you’re so inclined, please take a moment to look at Zing’s account in Extra Life. He plays in support of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

From his profile: “I’ve pledged to play games and raise funds for kids at my local children’s hospital!

During high school I had some health issues that just made day to day life difficult. Whereas, it wasn’t anything serious or life threatening, it took a lot out of me to deal with growing up AND dealing with not feeling well.

I happily do this every year to help other kids, many of whom are dealing with far worse than I had to bear, have a better life! Please help out if you are able because no child should have to deal with anything other than growing up!”

Here’s how it works

  • Extra Life is a gaming and DIY fundraising platform supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

  • I’m joining thousands of gamers, dedicating a day to play games and raise funds from friends like you.

  • 100% of the donations go to my local children’s hospital.

In a dramatic turn, a Timpson store on Nicolson Street – who offer locksmith services – had themselves become locked out and were need of their own kind of assistance.

The lunchtime drama caught the attention of quick-witted passersby in the Southside, who were more than happy to snap photos of a locksmith having to force their way into the shop.Taking to social media Stevie Cumming, said: “You couldn’t make this up… Timpsons on Nicolson Street locked themselves out the shop.”

Stevie told Edinburgh Live he’s not sure how staff became locked out in the first place but said there was “lots of laughing”.

Lehigh Valley Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips

From Emmaus to Easton, Halloween is coming to the Lehigh Valley and trick-or-treaters will be out and about throughout the towns. Here are a few tips to stay safe!

Since this time of year also coincides with earlier sunsets, it’s important to take a minute and remember to be cautious while driving this time of year.

Be sure to get some reflective tape for your child’s trick-or-treat bag or costume. It’s an easy way to be seen and won’t take away from the aesthetic.

Traveling in groups is smart. There’s safety in numbers, but remember to bring an adult.

When driving, be sure to come to a full and complete stop at all stop signs. I think it’s safe to say we’ve all rolled through a stop sign in our day. When kids see a stop sign, they expect cars to stop.

Be sure to balance some of that candy with some healthy snacks as well!

Be safe out there, Lehigh Valley

Don’t Be Scared of Being Locked Out on Halloween in the Lehigh Valley!

Halloween is almost here and that means there are about 100 different Trick-or-Treat times in the Lehigh Valley. From Hellertown to Allentown to Freemansburg and Easton, the Halloween season will be full of little ghouls and ghosts visiting homes in all of our neighborhoods.

We wanted to share some quick Halloween driving tips before all of the candy treasure hunts begin!

1. Use your headlights.
Fall in the Lehigh Valley means that sunset comes way sooner than a month ago. Put those lights on.

2. Don’t drive distracted.
Listen. We all have our phones in our cars. It’s time to learn how to use them responsibly. Don’t handle your phone while driving.

3. Turn the radio down.
A lot of people make fun of “turning the radio down to find an address” but it actually has a root in science. Our brains handle all of the stimuli it receives. So, if we turn down the radio, it allows us to focus!

4. Drive slower than the posted speed limit.
In residential areas especially. There is no reason to drive fast.

5. Don’t pass other cars stopped in the street.
If we see a car in the street, we’re inclined to drive around it. This time of year, it’s smart to take that maneuver a little bit slower.

6. Communicate with other drivers.
Put your road rage away for a month. Just do it.

7. Designate a sober driver or arrange a taxi if you’re celebrating with alcohol.
Or call an Uber or Lyft.

8. If you see a drunk or unsafe driver on the road, alert law enforcement.
Call the police. Don’t try to follow them.

9. Call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith if you get locked out

If you find yourself in a lock-out situation call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith at (484) 891-1922 for 24/7 lockout service within the Lehigh Valley.

Unfreeze Your Car Door

Yep, it’s that time of year again, when we get to talk about it getting cold. No one wants to think about it and there aren’t many people looking forward to it, but the cold comes to the Lehigh Valley every year no matter what.

Between shoveling and putting on snow tires and keeping our sidewalks clear of ice, we may not also be thinking about how to unlock frozen car doors or keep them unfrozen.

Here are a few steps.

  1. Don’t let it get frozen in the first place. Obviously, if you have a garage, a frozen car door should normally be something you don’t have to worry about. But, you can also get car covers to protect your car a bit more from the elements and, in some cases, prevent car door freezing.
  2. Use an ice scraper to get the worst of the ice off the lock. Be sure to make sure that your problem isn’t just a frozen car door handle, which can be fixed with use this step.
  3. Pour on some lukewarm water over the frozen lock and door frame. Don’t use hot water or you could break your windshield or other window due to the temperature difference.
  4. If you can get a hair dryer out to your car door, that’s a very viable option for unfreezing it.
  5. Get some lock de-icer. If you find yourself in this situation more than a few times during the winter months, you may want to look into one of the variety of de-icing products that can be found at most auto and big box stores.

Stay warm out there and be sure to call us if you find yourself in any lockout situation: (484) 891-1922.

Fall Driving Tips for the Lehigh Valley

The Lehigh Valley gets all four seasons and each one has its own challenges when it comes to driving. The summer has a lot of traffic, the winter has snow and sleet, the spring isn’t so bad, but the fall can be tricky.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when it comes to driving as the weather goes from hot to cool to cold.

Watch out for Leaves

Leaves in the Lehigh Valley are beautiful but they can be slippery. Try to avoid braking on leaves and drive slowly through them. Leaves may also obscure any markings below them, so be extra vigilant.

Fog and Rain

As the weather gets colder, fog becomes more of a reality and rain can be a bit more tricky. Be more cognizant of the weather now that fall is approaching and drive accordingly, giving yourself extra time to stop and an adequate distance between cars in front of you.

Bridges Get Slick, Especially in the Morning

Your morning commute can get a bit more slippery if it goes over a bridge, especially a smaller one. Bridges get cold first, which can lead to slick conditions even when roads are completely fine. Be careful and don’t enter a bridge at an angle if possible.

Check Your Tire Pressure

New season, new reason to check your tire pressure and make sure it’s within the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Headlights

You may not have even needed to use them during the summer, but now that the fall is creeping in, days are getting shorter. Make sure your headlights are up to par this fall season.

Children

And, of course, remember that school is back in session. Be smart!
