5 Ways to Stay Calm if You Locked Your Keys in Your Car

Getting locked out of your car can be an instant panic situation. This can be even more of an issue for those who are predispositioned to such panic attacks. It’s important to remember that, while the initial shock can be scary, you can not only get out of the situation quickly, but you can also calm yourself down.

1. Keep Our Phone Number Hand

Be sure to add 24/7 Emergency Locksmith’s number, (484) 891-1922, into your phone as a contact. This will make it so you’re already set up to call us and don’t have to use your phone to search for a local locksmith. If you’re in the Lehigh Valley area, we’ll come to you.

2. Slow Down and Breathe

Making a conscious effort to slow down your breathing will have an almost immediate effect on your whole body. Breathing more slowly will allow you to take stock in the situation at hand.

3. Tell Yourself to Take a Timeout

Much like slowing down your breathing, saying “Timeout” out loud can actually help you slow your brain down within a chaotic situation. Taking a timeout can give you pause to reevaluate the situation.

4. Look at what you can control

Your keys are locked in the car. You’ve already called 24/7 Emergency Locksmith, so that will be taken care of. Now, what else can you control? Be sure that you’re in a safe place. Be sure you’re on the lookout for the locksmith. Focus on things that you have control over and forget the things that you do not.

5. Smile

It may sound a bit hokey, but there is actual scientific evidence that suggests if you put on a happy face, or even just laugh at the ridiculous situation you got yourself into, it will help to calm you during a stressful time.

Remember, give us a call and we’ll help you get out of your lockout panic situation as quickly as possible!

Safety Tips for The Great Allentown Fair

The Great Allentown Fair is the unofficial Lehigh Valley goodbye to summer. It announces the end of the summer festival season and its end ushers in thoughts of pumpkin patches and apple picking.

That doesn’t mean you should look past the Fair, however. It’s still a great place to take the family and always full with some incredible musical performances to cap off your summer. This year alone features Sugarland, 311 and Offspring, and Niall Horan.

Just as with absolutely any festival in the Lehigh Valley, there are always safety precautions to take even though the events themselves are generally some of the safest you can visit with your family.

Park legally and remember where you parked. Parking can sometimes be tricky at Lehigh Valley events and the Allentown Fair isn’t any exception. Make sure that you don’t park in a tow away zone, especially if you’re driving with your family. There will be many side lots run by private organizations that don’t make too much of a dent in your cotton candy budget. Drop a pin on your Google Maps or other app before you make the walk to the fairgrounds so you can find your car easily after you leave.

Lock Up. This goes without saying, but we can’t tell you the amount of posts we see on Facebook from people who simply don’t lock their vehicles. Lock up!

Be prepared to wait in traffic. The Allentown Fair doesn’t have the worst traffic due to many different roads in and out, but it’s still something to plan ahead for whether you’re heading in or out. Going at off peak hours (right as it opens during the week) is a great way to skip the crowds.

You’ll need cash, but don’t carry too much on you. Plan ahead what you think you’ll need throughout your trip and don’t bring much more than that.

Be sure to keep our phone number in your phone. Call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith at (484) 891-1922 if you’ve locked yourself out of your vehicle at the fair or lost your keys altogether. We’ll be there faster than a spin of a ferris wheel. (Well, we’re not sure exactly how fast that is, but we’ll be there in minutes.)

Have a fun and safe time at the fair!

Why Can’t You Open a Car Door if Someone is Locking it Explained

Courtesy jalopnik
Jalopnik recently posted an insanely interesting article about something we’ve all encountered in our lifetimes.

Have you ever tried to get into a car as someone is trying to unlock it? Have you then tried to open it again only to see that they are trying to unlock it again?

The website Jalopnik went into some pretty serious depth in a recent article explaining why this phenomenon occurs.

Take a look at a quick excerpt…

The most basic explanation possible is that pulling on the handle engages a little mechanical piece inside the door, a piece that bumps into another mechanical piece triggered by someone else trying to unlock the door. Alone, either one would do their job unimpeded. Do both at the same time and they block each other.

This sounds like it’s going to be really easy to understand, right? You have no idea how wrong you are.

Door locks and latches are absurdly, mind-hurtingly complicated. Just stick with us here, and you’ll see. SOURCE: Jalopnik

Go ahead and hit up their link for a VERY in-depth look at why this occurs. It’s something that locksmiths have a fun time reading.

And, as always, please contact 24/7 Emergency Locksmith in the Lehigh Valley any time you have a lockout situation at (484) 891-1922.

A Few Of Our Favorite Locksmith Jokes

‘I do have an extra set of keys, they’re in the glovebox.’
Believe it or not, locksmithing isn’t all fun and games! We take our job very seriously and the safety of our clients, as well as their prompt service, is incredibly important to us.

That being said, we’re not above enjoying a locksmith joke or two. Here are a few of our favorites.

Not so Smart

A lawyer was on his cell phone, calling a locksmith.

“I locked my keys in my sports car!” said the nervous lawyer.

“No problem, I should be there in about an hour,” replied the locksmith.

“Do you think you can make it a little sooner?” pleaded the lawyer. “My top is down and its starting to rain.”

The Entrepreneur

An entrepreneur attended an auction at which he won the bid on an old safe. With dreams of a large fortune inside, he was told that the business from which the safe originated was so long defunct, that no one had the combination. Undaunted, he called a locksmith to try to get the safe open.

The first locksmith told the entrepreneur that it would cost forty dollars to open the safe intact. However, tried as he might, he couldn’t open it, and told the wealthy man that he had lost his money in buying the safe.

The entrepreneur then contacted another locksmith, a crusty, bent old man with three days’ growth of white whiskers, who took a long look at the safe, noted its manufacturer and retired to his truck. Shortly, he returned with a power drill, a ruler, and a small, bent piece of metal.

The locksmith measured a few inches from the dial and marked an “x” at the “2 o’clock” mark. It took more than half an hour for the old man to drill through the safe’s door. He then took the bent metal, hooked it through the hole and fished around a few moments until a loud “CLICK” was heard. Turning the handle the door swung open slowly.

The safe was empty.

Disappointed, the entrepreneur turned to the locksmith and asked the charge for opening the safe.

“A hundred and twenty dollars,” replied the locksmith.

“A hundred and twenty dollars?!” shouted the businessman, “That’s outrageous! The other man only wanted forty! I want an itemized bill for it!”

“Okay.” The locksmith turned on his heel and returned to his truck. A few minutes later, the entrepreneur was presented with a dirty piece of paper upon which the locksmith had written:

Charge for drilling hole: $20

Charge for knowing WHERE to drill hole: $100.

New Dog

I bought a dog off a locksmith today.

As soon as I got it home it made a bolt for the door.

Safe Driving Tips for Lehigh Valley Teens Heading Back to School

Like it or not, the end of summer is near and that means school will be back in session soon.

For many high school students throughout the Lehigh Valley, that means trips to and from school in their cars. While some may have been driving for a year or two, for many it is their first time driving to school on their own this year.

We wanted to give a few tips for teen drivers, even if they feel like seasoned drivers.

Turn the Cell Phone Off

If you don’t want to turn it off, keep it in your bag. Let’s just start out the school year with a steadfast rule that looking at your phone and driving isn’t just not a good idea, it’s also very dangerous. Don’t do it.

Turn on your Headlights

The days are going to get shorter and the mornings will be darker as the school year progresses. Turn your lights on in the morning and after school to make sure that other cars see you.

Obey The Speed Limit

Are you in that much of a rush to get to homeroom? But, seriously, obey the speed limit. There are a lot of cars on the road in the morning before school. There is no reason to drive dangerously.

Drive Alone

A teen driver with another teen in the car can double the risk of having an accident.

Take it Seriously

Driving is fun, but it’s also an activity that can be dangerous if not taken seriously. Understand the impact you can have on your life or someone else’s if you don’t drive safely.

Have a safe and happy school year!

Tips for Waiting by Your Car in the Lehigh Valley

Cars and Coffee in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
24/7 Emergency Locksmith will be onsite to help you with your emergency lockout situation usually in minutes, which is important when it’s late at night or you’re in an area you’re not familiar with.

And while we are dedicated to getting to you in the Lehigh Valley quickly, we also want to share some tips on how to wait by your car safely whether it’s for a few minutes or a few hours.

Look for a Safe Location

Your car may not be the safest location for you to wait for a locksmith or a tow truck, if your situation is a bit more serious. Gas stations, restaurants, and open stores are good places to safely wait for help to arrive.

Don’t Accept Rides from Strangers After You’ve Made Your Emergency Call

If you already have help on the way, and they know where you are, the most important thing to do is to stay in that location and wait for them to arrive. Accepting a ride from a stranger to go somewhere else won’t be helpful.

Tell Trusted People What Your Plan Is

After you’ve made arrangements for help, be sure to also call a family member or friend and let them know what is going on. Tell them where you are, share your GPS location with them even, and tell them what company you called for help.

As always, call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith at (484) 891-1922 and we will be there in a few minutes to help you with your lockout needs. If you need more serious assistance, always dial 911.

Where to Park During Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Musikfest is the most attended free music festival in the country and that means it can sometimes be a pain to get parking.

Thankfully, with a little bit of planning, you hopefully won’t have to drive around forever. Here are a few suggestions on where to park or what to look for before you venture down to Musikfest!

If You Drive All the Way In

If you decide to drive into downtown Bethlehem for Musikfest, you’ll want to look for some private lots first. Many private lots are owned by churches or local companies and are usually pretty safe spots as there are people there for most of the day. These usually cost anywhere from $5 to $20 for the day. You may want to try one of them first because the closer you get to downtown Bethlehem, the harder it can be to find parking.

If you must go into the heart of Musikfest, you may want to consider buying a new ParkPlatz Pass that allows you to park on Moravian College’s South Campus. These are sold on a first come first served basis and are ONLY available in advance.

If you don’t want to do that, you can take your chances with the Walnut Street and/or New Street parking garages. Be warned that getting a spot there will be tough and leaving can be tougher.

If You Don’t Drive All the Way In

Musikfest list numerous options for satellite parking for their shuttle bus service provided by TransBridge Bus Lines.

You can refer to their rather extensive list on their website and plan ahead!

Uber It Up

Last but not least, if you want to take Uber or Lyft, you’ll find more than a few drivers available at all hours of the day and night in and around Musikfest. Uber and Lyft can be life savers, but be sure to take precautions and always match up your driver with the driver listed on your app.

No matter how you get into Musikfest, we hope to see you there. Be safe!

And, as always, if you find yourself in a lockout situation, 24 Emergency Locksmith will be there day or night to help you out/

Keep Your Home Safe While You’re on Vacation

Vacation is supposed to be a relaxing time, but stressing over whether or not your home is safe may keep you from enjoying it to the fullest.

Here are a few tips to give you some peace of mind while you’re away on vacation!

Ask Someone to Check in On Your Home

Getting to know your neighbors is always a great idea and even more so when you’re not going to be around for awhile. Let a trusted neighbor know that you will be away on vacation and ask them if they wouldn’t mind just keeping an eye on things while you’re gone. If you don’t have any neighbors or aren’t comfortable asking them, ask a family friend or family member to drop in on your home once in awhile while you are away.

Drop in Remotely

You have your choice of home security cameras and many of them are quite affordable. Most of these cameras also give the option of viewing them on an app or your computer from anywhere in the world!

Install Timers on your lights

Much like the newer security cameras, there are a slew of electronic options to put your lights on timers to make it look as though you are home. If you’re not too keen on the digital route, you can even install the old time timers that plug right into an outlet and work off an analog timer.

Stop Your Mail

If you know you’re going to be away for awhile and your mail is usually left in an outside mailbox or at your door, contact the United States Postal Service and let them know you’ll be away. They can stop delivery for a period of time. Also, avoid purchasing items on sites like Amazon.com leading up to your vacation.

Don’t Leave a Spare Key Out

Is your spare key under the flower pot on your front porch? Many spare keys aren’t well hidden. Bring them inside when you’re going away for awhile or give them to someone you’ve asked to check in on your home.

/Hide Your Valuables

If your house is broken into, make it even harder for thieves to get anything good by stashing your most valuable or prized possessions either in a very safe place or in a safe itself.

No matter where you’re headed this summer, have a safe time on your vacation!

Musikfest 2018 Hacks from 24/7 Emergency Locksmith

Musikfest is a staple of Lehigh Valley life. In fact, it’s the festival that began the festival culture in the area. Believe it or not, Musikfest is the largest free music festival in the United States. Seriously. And, with that many people coming in, there are always a few ways to make sure that you’re not only playing it safe, but also getting the most out of the biggest music festival in the Lehigh Valley.

Park Safe

Downtown Bethlehem has two parking decks near center city at Main and North streets and at Walnut and Guetter streets. There will always be other places to park for a fee, or just straight up street parking. No matter where you park, be sure to set a GPS pin on your phone using an app like Google Maps or Waze to be sure you know where you parked.

Buy Tickets

Musikfest, at least in 2018, still uses the ticket method for purchasing food and alcohol. This means that you need to buy tickets at kiosks with cash or a credit card before you can buy food or alcohol on site.

Carrying Stuff

Everyone is going to have their own amount of items to carry. If you’re a family with small children, you’ll be using a stroller. However, if you’re a person who is just visiting Musikfest with friends, it may not be a bad idea to bring your own bag to secure your wallet or other items.

Ubering

Grabbing an Uber may not be the worst idea if you’re coming to Musikfest from out of town, or even a few blocks away. Be smart when you have a few drinks.
