How to Protect Your Car from Being Broken Into from 24/7 Emergency Locksmith of the Lehigh Valley

24/7 Emergency Locksmith of the Lehigh Valley is there when you need us for any type of lockout situation. But, we’re also the type of company that doesn’t want to see you get into a bad situation, either.

Here are a few ways to keep your car safe from being broken into. Of course, if you need us, just call us at (484) 891-1922.

Remove Valuables from your Car

One of the most frequent reasons for thieves to target a car is the simple fact that they see something in the car through the window. Remove any sort of valuable item from your car before you leave it. If you have to leave any valuable items in your car, be sure to cover them up or put them in a space that is not visible.

Protect Your Car

Most modern cars already come with some sort of alarm system. Be sure to lock and/or alarm your car before you leave it.

Fake It

If you don’t have a car that has a security system, that’s no problem. Just get a sticker that says that you have one. Believe it or not, if your car has a sticker on it that says that is its protected by a security system, there are much higher odds that a thief will pass it over.

Tint Your Windows

Tinting your windows doesn’t just make you “cool” it also keeps people from seeing what is inside your vehicle. As long as you’re installing tint that is within your state’s code, go for it.

Park in a Well Lit Place

Let’s be honest, a thief is going to attempt to break into a car if it’s in a dark area much more frequently than if it’s in a well-lit one. Park your car in as well-lit of an area as you can.

Be sure to call us if you need help in a lockout situation at (484) 891-1922!

How to Prep You Car for Long Term Storage

There are a variety of reasons you may need to prep your car (or a car) for long term storage. Perhaps you’re going away for an extended period of time or your college age child is off to school for a semester and they won’t be using it. Whatever the reason, there are a few tips you can follow to make sure your car is safe during a longer than usual period of no use.

Firstly, let’s be sure that you keep the keys somewhere safe. While we will come out to help you any time you’re in a lock out situation, storing your keys in an easily accessible area is smart.

Cover it Up

Keeping your vehicle covered takes away a lot of headache if you need to leave it for awhile. Keeping it in a garage is ideal, but if you have to leave it outside, be sure to grab an all purpose cover.

Fill the Tank and Change the Oil

If you’re storing the car for longer than 30 days, be sure to top off the gas to keep moisture from accumulating, and change the oil. It will keep your car ready for you when it’s time to fire it up again.

Keep the Battery Charged

We all know that an unattended battery will slowly loose it’s charge. If you can start the car (or have someone doing it for you) for 15 minutes every two weeks, you can maintain the battery life and have it ready to go when you’re ready to use the car full-time again.

Maintain the Insurance

It might seem like a good time to cancel your car insurance if you don’t plan on using the car for awhile. However, there is a chance that your insurance company could raise your rates for the gap in coverage. Also, if you’re ever in a situation when you need to use the car unexpectedly, it’s good to have it covered.

Be sure to call us for you any of your lockout needs in the Lehigh Valley area (484) 891-1922!

The Hardest Cars to Break Into

While we’d never use our powers for evil, there are still people out there who make breaking into cars a habit.

Here are some of the cars that are the hardest to break into. If you own one and get locked out, though, don’t worry, we’ll get you back on the road in no time.

BMW and Mercedes

Both of these higher end cars use double locking mechanisms that make them pretty difficult to break in. Even if you break the window, you can’t open the door from the inside on many models. Play it safe and make sure you have spares available.

Honnda Accord

A Honda Accord? Yep. While these may not be BMWs or Mercedes, they do present a unique problem with their build. The space between the auto body and the door on these cars is very narrow, making it difficult to break into by trying to unlock the door.

Lexus

Maybe not surprisingly, Lexus cars are difficult to break into because the button in the door frame is designed to drop down quickly after it is lifted.

No matter what car you have, though, we’ll be able to help you out if you’re ever in a lockout situation. Be sure to save our number!

What Are The Different Types of Car Door Locks?

We might not think too hard about the types of door locks that our cars have, but beyond being interesting, it can sometimes come in handy to know what your car is equipped with. Let’s take a look.

Manual Lock Cylinders

This lock has a knob on the inside of the car that can be pulled up or pushed down. You see these locks all the time in horror movies when the character is trying to get away! If you pull the knob up, the door is unlocked. If you push it down, the door is locked. This lock requires a key for operation.

Automatic Door Lock Types

Would you believe that keyless car locks started all the way back in 1980 by Ford Motor Company? It’s true. These locks are much more common today and can be identified by a pin pad on the door.

Remote Key-Less Systems

What started out as something only found in pricier cars is commonplace today. Remote key systems operate by a radio frequency and a key fob. Some require the owner to push a button to open and lock and some actually just open automatically when an owner is close to the vehicle.

Child Safety Locks

Most cars have child safety locks built into their back doors. The obvious intent here is to keep a child from opening the door in the back. The locks, when engaged, make the inside back door handles useless, keeping kids safe.

If you get locked out, be sure to contact us 24 hours per day at (484) 891-1922.

Prepare Yourself for Cold When Driving this Winter

With the Lehigh Valley experiencing quite the cold snap this winter, it’s always a good idea to go over what you need to do if you get caught stuck in the cold.

Check out our blog for other tips on winter driving as well.

For your car, you may want to consider checking these on your own or bringing your car into your mechanic to: Check fluids, winterize your car, change your tires, and considering a battery with a higher CCA (Cold Cranking Amps).

For inside your car, you want to make sure you have extra blankets, an ice scraper, extra clothing, lighting (flashlight or otherwise), extra clothing, and a basic first aid kit.

The age of cell phones has made the possibility of being stranded on the side of the road during the winter more rare than in the past, but the possibility of being involved in a traffic jam on a highway where the traffic is stopped for multiple hours is not unheard of.

As always, drive safe and contact us if you need any locksmith help in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania: (484) 891-1922.

Tips for Driving Safely During the Holidays

The holiday season is one of the most exciting of the year, but it’s also one of the most dangerous to drive during. With more people on the road than most other times of the year, the chance for accidents and hazards is high. Here are a few tips that can help you when you’re on your way to grandma’s house for Christmas dinner!

1. Get a good night’s sleep: It may seem like a simple thing to do, but getting a good night’s rest is important when it comes to being alert while you’re driving. Getting a good night’s sleep can also be difficult during a time of the year when you may be expected to do a lot. Take a break!

2. Plan your route in advance and be ready for detours: You may be driving to the same house you’ve been driving to for decades or dinner may be at a new place this year. Either way, it makes sense to go over your route one more time before you go and be ready to have to take a detour of something happens along the way.

3. Follow speed limits and keep your cool: Road rage is a very serious thing, don’t be a part of it and don’t be affected by it. Don’t tailgate and follow the speed limit. Everyone is going to have a shorter fuse than normal when there are that many cars on the road.

4. Secure your home when you leave: Make sure that you lock up your home when you leave and set your alarm if you have one.

5. Try to relax a little: Sounds easier said than done, right? Well, you’re right. But, try to relax a little bit if you can and enjoy the holidays with your family.

And, remember, if you are in need of a locksmith, no matter when it is, call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith. We’ll be there to help you: (484) 891-1922

What To Do When You Break Down on a Highway

We’ve all been there and if you haven’t, the odds are pretty good it’ll happen to you in the future. We’re talking about breaking down on the side of a highway, or really any road for that matter. While it’s frustrating and can really throw a wrench into your day, don’t fear! The best thing to do is to keep calm and realize you may be there for a little while. Here are some tips to help you out the next time it happens to you.

First thing’s first, if you know that your breakdown is beyond something that you can handle yourself (a flat tire for instance, be sure to call for help right away.

Don’t flag down other vehicles for assistance. While it may seem like a good thing to do, you want to be able to rely on professionals to help you.

Don’t stand behind or next to your vehicle. It’s a worse case scenario, but if another vehicle hits yours, it could be disastrous if you’re standing nearby.

Use flares, if you have them, or road signs, again if you have them. If you’re fresh out of those items, be sure to stock up before your next trip. In a pinch, a white shirt will do and it notifies police officers or tow truck drivers that help is needed.

Be patient! Depending on where you broke down, it could take some time for help to get to you. The best thing for you to do is stay calm until it arrives.

If you’re stranded because you locked your keys in your car, be sure to call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith in the Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton areas of the Lehigh Valley: (484) 891-1922.
