Is It Time to Replace Your Door Locks in the Lehigh Valley?

We all have a pretty good idea of when it’s time to change our oil or even replace our running shoes, but when is it a good time to replace our door locks?

Here are a few simple situations when it’s probably a good time to give 24/7 Emergency Locksmith a call at (484) 891-1922 to talk more with us about replacing your door locks.

Someone Moved Out

Whether or not it’s a good friend, the best roommate of all time, or even a long house guest, if someone had access to a key to your house for a period of time, it may be a good idea to replace those locks. By doing so, you’re not saying that the person who moved out was untrustworthy, it’s just smart to play it safe in these situations.

Visible Signs of Wear and Tear

If your locks show any visible signs of wear and tear, including rust, it’s time to have a professional look at them.

Any Time a Key is Lost or Stolen

Don’t gamble with your safety. If you lost your key, it’s time to replace your locks. In a digital age, it’s not that hard for someone to track down where you live if they are able to connect your key to you.

You’re Moving In

Unless your house literally had no one living in it before, there really is no way of knowing who has had access to your keys, who made copies, and who never turned their copies in.

You Had a Recent Break-in

This one may be the most obvious, but if you had someone break into your home, regardless of if they broke a lock or not, means it’s time for you to contact a locksmith to make your home safe again.

24/7 Emergency Locksmith is there when you need us!

Common Locks for your Home

Opening the door with number combination with woman hand.[/caption]It’s important to feel safe in your home. So while a lock on a door is made for specifically keeping that door securely closed, there are also different types of locks that are designed for either interior or exterior use.

Deadbolt:

This type of lock is one that pretty much everyone has heard of. It’s a metal bolt that goes directly into the doorframe and is one of the most secure varieties on the market. This type is also the one used mainly for exterior doors and is the safest common lock found in and around the home.

Lever handle locks and knob locks:

These locks are more or less the same, but with a physically different shaped handle. The lock itself requires a simple press of a button located in the center of the knob. While these aren’t as secure as a deadbolt, and alone wouldn’t work well for exterior doors, they are great when you just need a little privacy in your own home.

Keyless Entry Pads:

The keyless entry pad is a wonderful way to get in and out of your home without the use of an actual key. This method works great for homes with a large number of people. You only need a code to get in and out. The cons of this are the possibility of battery failure or the code needing to be changed from too many people knowing it.

Smart Locks:

These are the wave of the future. With an app or the assistance of something like Google Home or Amazon Echo, you can lock and unlock your front door even if you aren’t anywhere near it. Cozy in bed and not sure if you locked the front door? Just tell Alexa to do it. Have a ton of groceries to lug in and don’t want to juggle keys while your hands are loaded with bags? Just unlock with the app while in your driveway. Going for a run but don’t want to carry keys? Just tell Siri to take care of it before you pop on that workout playlist.
