Window Tint in Pennsylvania

Our friends at Fred Beans have given us a little bit of insight into the world of window tint in Pennsylvania.

Be sure to check their site out here and check out their info below!

Window Tint Darkness: Window Tinting Laws in Pennsylvania

Your visible light transmission, or VLT, is the percentage of light allowed through your window glass in Pennsylvania. It differs for vans, sedans, and SUVs, so be sure you’re looking at the appropriate VLT for your vehicle.

Sedans: The front side windows, rear side windows, and rear window must allow over 70% of light into the vehicle. The windshield must also allow over 70% of light in, with the exception of the top three inches.
SUVs and vans: The front side windows must allow over 70% of light in. The front side, rear side, and rear window can be tinted to any darkness level. The windshield must also allow 70% of light in, with the exception of the top three inches.

Window Tint Reflection
One purpose of window tint is to reflect light, which helps reduce heat and glare inside the vehicle. Pennsylvania law allows a certain level of reflection with a tint, depending on the vehicle type.

Sedans: The front side windows and rear side windows can’t have any mirrored or metallic tint.
SUVs and vans: The front side windows and rear side windows can’t have any mirror or metallic tint.

Additional Pennsylvania Window Tint Laws
There are a few additional considerations when you plan to tint your vehicle’s windows and want to stay legal in Pennsylvania. These laws and regulations include:

Side mirrors, if the rear window is tinted.
A sticker to acknowledge legal window tinting.
No requirement for film manufacturers to sell film.
No color exclusions for window tint.
Medical exemptions for special medical circumstances that require a special window tint.
These laws and regulations are for the state of Pennsylvania, but individual counties or localities may have different regulations. Before tinting your vehicle’s windows, be sure to check the current laws through your local Department of Motor Vehicles or law enforcement agency.

Keep Your Lehigh Valley Home Safe While Traveling

Traveling can already be stressful enough without having to worry about what is going on at home. Between the plane tickets or the directions and between the carry on items or the bathroom stops on the Jersey Turnpike, traveling can take its toll on our stress levels.

But, what about when you get to your destination and all you can think about is whether or not you locked the house and if you remembered to keep that back porch light on.

Thankfully, in this age of technology, and with a few small other tips, you can keep your home safe while you’re traveling the globe or just down to the shore.

Ask Someone To Look Out For You

Whether it’s a neighbor or a friend, having someone swing by your place is helpful because they can make it look more “lived-in” and can also bring in mail that may be a sign no one is home. A visitor can also make sure to check around the property for you to keep things in line or to notice any trouble.

Cameras

Home security cameras are so inexpensive these days that they make for a fantastic investment when it comes to home safety. You can check many of them from your phone and most will give alerts if they detect something amiss.

Lock Up

It may be tempting to leave that back porch door open for your mother-in-law to come in and check on the cat, but it’s just simply not a good idea to keep anything open while you’re away.

Schedule Lights

Smart home devices have come a long way and while setting up light timers isn’t a new concept, technology has made it as simple as possible. From a smart home app connected to your smart home lights, you can set a schedule for them or simply turn them off and on from your phone anywhere there’s cell reception.

Don’t Leave Keys Out

Leaving a key under a rock or on top of your door is a cliche, so why do so many of us still do it? Don’t leave a spare key out where someone you don’t want to can find it. Give the spare key to someone you trust.

Be Careful on Social Media

Social media posting is a personal preference, but you may want to curb some of it in real-time if you want to make sure no one knows that you’re not at home. That’s up to you!

Bottom line, as long as you leave your home with someone you trust who can take a look around every so often and bring in your mail, etc., you’re at a much lower risk of having something happen to your property while you’re away. Have a safe and fun vacation this summer!

Safety Tips for The Great Allentown Fair

The Great Allentown Fair is the unofficial Lehigh Valley goodbye to summer. It announces the end of the summer festival season and its end ushers in thoughts of pumpkin patches and apple picking.

That doesn’t mean you should look past the Fair, however. It’s still a great place to take the family and always full with some incredible musical performances to cap off your summer. This year alone features Sugarland, 311 and Offspring, and Niall Horan.

Just as with absolutely any festival in the Lehigh Valley, there are always safety precautions to take even though the events themselves are generally some of the safest you can visit with your family.

Park legally and remember where you parked. Parking can sometimes be tricky at Lehigh Valley events and the Allentown Fair isn’t any exception. Make sure that you don’t park in a tow away zone, especially if you’re driving with your family. There will be many side lots run by private organizations that don’t make too much of a dent in your cotton candy budget. Drop a pin on your Google Maps or other app before you make the walk to the fairgrounds so you can find your car easily after you leave.

Lock Up. This goes without saying, but we can’t tell you the amount of posts we see on Facebook from people who simply don’t lock their vehicles. Lock up!

Be prepared to wait in traffic. The Allentown Fair doesn’t have the worst traffic due to many different roads in and out, but it’s still something to plan ahead for whether you’re heading in or out. Going at off peak hours (right as it opens during the week) is a great way to skip the crowds.

You’ll need cash, but don’t carry too much on you. Plan ahead what you think you’ll need throughout your trip and don’t bring much more than that.

Be sure to keep our phone number in your phone. Call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith at (484) 891-1922 if you’ve locked yourself out of your vehicle at the fair or lost your keys altogether. We’ll be there faster than a spin of a ferris wheel. (Well, we’re not sure exactly how fast that is, but we’ll be there in minutes.)

Have a fun and safe time at the fair!

How to Avoid a Locksmith Scam in the Lehigh Valley

The need for a locksmith can be an unwelcome and/or irritating situation. From locking yourself out of your car, losing the keys to your office building, or simply changing the locks to your new home, the moments that it takes to call a locksmith can be stressful enough as it is, and can be done in a time of panic, worry, or stress.

But when that time arises, there are some people who will try to scam your hard earned money at a when you’re most vulnerable and perhaps don’t have the best knowledge of what is going on.

Here are a few tips to avoid being scammed by a faux locksmith:

1. Find a locksmith ahead of time. The BBB and other reliable sources like Yelp and Facebook reviews can assure you that you have a real company to call if you find yourself in trouble. Just save the contact in your phone and you’ll have the info available immediately.
Avoid companies that don’t answer the phone with a specific business name. If someone just says the phrase “locksmith services” or something to that affect but won’t give an actual company name, chances are they’re not legitimate.

2. Ask for ID and written proof of a company with a name, address, and other items like website, telephone number, and even a company email. Also be aware of what the person arrives in. Most companies have a van or vehicle with the company name and logo displayed on it.

3. If it isn’t an immediate matter, get an estimate on legitimate company letterhead paper or from a company email. An email that is @gmail, @yahoo, @aol etc. is a big red flag. This estimate should include not just the lock cost, but also mileage and other additional charges that may be included in the final cost.

4. While PA doesn’t, there are 14 states that require locksmiths to be licensed. Those states are: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Maryland hasn’t yet implemented it yet, although they have now adopted this law. So if you are in one of these states, ask for that too.

5. If they say the lock needs to be drilled, especially if they have given little to no effort to open the lock prior, go with someone else. Not only does a professional locksmith know how to open almost any lock, but drilling is much more expensive and damaging to the surrounding frame of the lock.

What is a Locksmith and Where to Find One in the Lehigh Valley

When the word locksmith comes into mind, most people’s thoughts automatically go to someone who helps you when you’re locked out of your home, vehicle, safe, or other places that requires a key.

While back in the day you would’ve been right, these days that idea is only partially correct.

Modern day locksmiths need to have a much wider knowledge and array of skills than back in the day. It’s not just doorknobs and deadbolts anymore. With today’s technologies and modern advances, the need for a locksmith can be much more unique and specialized for each situation.

Nowadays with all of the different locks, bolts, keys, and security measures one might find both on the market and in day-to-day areas, there needs to be someone reliable and skilled that is able to tackle any of those unique problems if a situation arises.

So if you need a key fixed, are having issues with your car locks, need a new lock installed, you’ve found a old hidden safe buried in your home during renovations, your state of the art wifi locks are on the fritz, or simply can’t find your keys, if it involves anything security-wise, and you need help, call a professional locksmith… that’s what we’re here for!
