Locking yourself out of your house is never fun, but how do you make sure that you’re able to get back into your house if you do lose your key?
An age-old method has been hiding a spare key somewhere, where are the best places to hide a key or what is the best thing to do with a spare key? Let’s take a look.
With Someone Else
Putting your key with a trusted friend or family member is probably your best bet. Sure, they may get annoyed if you’re calling them at 2 a.m., but it’s a safer option than to keep it on your property.
Get a Smart Lock
Yep, this one has nothing to do with hiding your key. There are other alternatives out there that can get you into your home without needed a key. You’ll either need your phone or a passcode and you’ll be good to go.
Not On Top Of Your Door
Many people leave a spare key ridiculously close to the door they are locking. For example, leaving a key on top of a door jamb or under a welcome mat is the same as leaving a key in the first place anyone is going to look for them. If you must leave a key on your property, you want it to be a place that someone is genuinely not going to look or is going to have to work so hard to try to find it that it’d be very noticeable.
Behind a license plate

Under a rock

Don’t put it under the rock directly next to your front door, but one that only you or your family members may know about.
The bottom line here is that it’s not the best idea to keep a spare key around your home, but if you must do it, make sure that it’s in a place that absolutely no one else would think to look for. And, if you do get locked out, be sure to call us at (484) 891-1922.
