Park Safe, Lehigh Valley!

The Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton area has pretty safe parking garages and large lots, however, it’s always smart to be safe and to take a few tips with you along the way.

Here are a few tips on parking safe in Lehigh Valley parking garages.

1. REMEMBER WHERE YOU PARK

This is easier now than ever with smartphones being so prevalent. Simply jot down where you parked in a note app or text to yourself, or better yet, take a picture of where you are to make sure you don’t waste time walking around the garage.

2. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS

Don’t text or check your phone as your own the way in or out of a parking garage. You want to make sure you not only remember where you park, but you also want to keep your eyes or ears open for things that may be going on around you, especially at night.

3. KEEP YOUR KEYS OR SELF DEFENSE DEVICE IN HAND

While the odds of being attacked in a Lehigh Valley parking garage are statistically slim, you always want to be prepared. Carrying your keys in your hand not only allows you to access your car much easier, but it also gives you a weapon if you need one. This goes the same for any sort of self defense device you may carry with you, such as pepper spray. Those type of devices don’t do much if they are stuck at the bottom of your pocket or purse.

Be safe when you’re out no matter where you park and, as always, contact 24/7 Emergency Locksmith if you encounter a lockout situation. We’ll get you back on the road quickly.

How to Check The Tire Pressure on Your Car

It’s always a good idea to have a few car maintenance skills in your back pocket for when you need them. How to properly check your tire’s air pressure is a great way to maintain fuel mileage and to keep your car running efficiently.

Here are a few quick steps!

PURCHASE A TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE OR USE ONE AT A GAS STATION.

Refer to your tire pressure gauge manual for proper operation. Most gas stations have air pumps. All you need to do to check your tire pressure is to remove the cap and place the gauge into the tire stem. If you’re using a gas station gauge, it is most likely a “pencil style” and the PSI will pop out. If you’re using a digital gauge, it will read out on the device. Don’t worry about the air that is coming out, just don’t hold it on there for too long.

COMPARE YOUR READINGS

Compare the reading to the number that is in your car’s owner manual first. Use the number on the sidewall second. The one in the manual will be more accurate.

TOP UP OR LET IT OUT

If your PSI number is above what is recommended, then let some air out until it matches up. Conversely, if you’re low, fill up until you reach the recommended PSI.

Drive safely and call (484) 891-1922 if you’re locked out!

Keep Your House Looking Lived In While On Vacation

Going on vacation is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable not stressful and worrisome, so why should you have to think about whether or not your homestead is going to be ok while you are gone? You don’t need a high tech security system, which is what most people think. By implementing some of these small tips and tricks you can enjoy that nice sea breeze knowing your house is safe and sound.

STOP NEWSPAPER DELIVERY AND HOLD MAIL
One of the most obvious signs that someone is out of town is when their mail and newspapers begin to pile up. If you stop deliveries or have someone else pick them up for you your house won’t stick out, it’ll just be another house on the block.

SET TIMERS ON YOUR LIGHTS
Another thing a burglar will be looking for is whether or not there are lights on in the house for a few days. A way to avoid keeping your lights on the whole time you are on vacation is to set up a few timers. Have them in some main rooms of the house, kitchen, livening room, and maybe a bedroom and voila it looks like someone is home at night!

DON’T POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA
I know I know, everyone is always very eager to let everyone on Facebook and Twitter know the exciting place they are going on vacation. However, when you let your friends and family know where you’re going you also let all the burglars and thieves of the world know too. Just wait until you get back and post all your pictures from the comfort and security of your living room couch.

LockPickingLawyer Takes on a 1960s Jiffy Rotary Phone Lock

We’re unabashed in our love of the YouTube account LockPickingLawyer not only because we’re lock geeks, but because he brings the ideas of locks and the work of a locksmith to the masses.

While he’s famous for tackling hard or consumer grade locks, he recently uploaded  a video where he unlocks an old 1960s Jiffy Telephone Lock. The nostalgia factor here may be heavy for some and, for others, they might not have any idea what this contraption was ever used for!

When is the last time you used a rotary phone?

Seven Home Safety Tips in the Lehigh Valley

We’re at home a lot of the time right now due to the current world events. And while being at home has its challenges for many, we may not be thinking about safety as much as we should.

Here are a few quick tips to help get your home safety on track.

  1. Don’t leave a key in an obvious spot: How many times have you had to check in on a friend’s house only to find that they hide their spare key under a potted plant or at the top of a door frame? You’re not being sneaky, you’re being obvious. If you’re going to hide a spare key outside, you may want to up your game a little bit.
  2. Give the illusion of activity: We won’t tell you which brands to buy, but there are numerous inexpensive home lighting automation solutions that you can set up via an app to give the appearance of activity even if you’re home alone.
  3. Get some security cameras, lights and motion cameras: The peace of mind is enough to justify the cost of outfitting your home with security cameras. Now is a good time to upgrade your system. Having footage or sound of an incident can be invaluable.
  4. Secure your garage: It’s a weak spot. This goes for side doors as well. You want them to be as secure as any other entrance in your home.
  5. Trim the hedges: Make sure your landscaping doesn’t make it convenient for someone else to hide from view.
  6. Stay in contact with friends and family
  7. Call us to upgrade your home locks or if you’re in a lockout situation

Be safe and call us if you’re in need of upgrading your lock system!
