Spring Car Care Tips from 24/7 Emergency Locksmith

Spring has sprung in the Lehigh Valley
Spring in the Lehigh Valley means different things to different people. To some, it means getting ready for trips to Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom. For others, it may mean getting to the Lehigh Valley Zoo or lacing up shoes for runs along some of the beautiful trails in the area.

No matter what it means to you, you won’t have a good spring if you don’t take care of your vehicle. And, thankfully, it’s not that difficult.

Here are a few Spring car care tips!

Change your oil and filter

Just think of it as spring cleaning for your car as well. Everyone knows that it’s a good idea to change their car’s oil at the suggested intervals to keep it running efficiently and keeping gas consumption at a desirable level.

Replace your wiper blades

Your windshield wipers take a beating throughout the winter months so it might be time to get a pair of new ones.

Check your lighting

When’s the last time you turned on your car’s lights, including the four-ways, and walked around your car to see if they all work? Never? Well, it’s time to take a look.

Check your tires

Tires also go through a lot of stress throughout the winter months. If you’re not someone who regularly switches between winter and summer tires, it’s a good idea to do a visual check of them and to check the pressure once the weather gets a bit nicer.

Give your windshield a once over

Winter roads are full of salt and debris and other items that can put a beating on your windshield. Take a look at your windshield for any small cracks that could present a problem down the road. If you do spot a crack, it’s important (and most times less expensive) to fix it early.

A specialty menu will feature Irish staples like corned beef and cabbage.

Molly’s Irish Grille and Sports Pub in Bethlehem

Porters’ Pub in Easton

Porters’ Pub is opening up at 9 a.m. on Saturday for the first time since it was established in the early 1990s! Look for possibly the most authentic Irish menu in the Lehigh Valley.

Gadgets to Help You Not Lose Your Keys

How many times have you been in a hurry to drive somewhere or really needed to get in the house, but oops, can’t find your keys? Our guess is dozens of times. Recently there have been many products coming out to solve this issue every person faces on a daily basis. Some of the best have come from sites like Kickstarter or indiegogo and are becoming wildly popular.

Tile Mate

Easily the most recognizable of the group is tile. This company creates a variety of trackers that can be attached to key chains, backpacks or purses. Once you get the product all you need to is set up the app created by tile and you’re all set to find your keys, phone, wallet!

TrackR bravo

Another popular company is TrackR. They also sells a small tracking device that you can attached to any keychain or throw in a purse or wallet. The TrackR products do have the interesting feature of doubling as a phone finder, press on your TrackR device and your phone will start ringing. In that regard the more you have the better, you’ll never lose your phone or keys again.

Key Ringer

Now this one may not be the most innovative or new product but you better bet it gets the job done. The KeyRinger XL by Key Ringer is one of the loudest lost key finders on the market. As long as you have one of the two in a set you can press the button and the other will start ringing, very loudly. However if the volume is an issue it is reprogrammable to be softer, or louder if you’d really like.

What To Do If Your Key Breaks In The Lock

Breaking a key off in a lock has to be one of the most frustrating moments. And while we urge you to contact us when there is an issue you don’t feel comfortable. Here are at least a few tips for you to try if your key breaks off in your lock.

1. First, Don’t Try Your Key Again

Some think that using the key again may somehow help to jimmy the lock in some way. Don’t do it. All it will probably do is push the broken part of the key even further into the lock.

2. Tweezers May Help

The first thin many people do when they break their key off in a lock is to look for some sort of tool to help them out. One of the most simple tools is a pair of tweezers. We only really recommend trying this method if a bit of the key is still hanging out of the lock. Otherwise, you may end up pushing the key further into the lock.

3. Super Glue?

Believe it or not, super glue MAY help you get a key out of a lock. If you’re able to put some glue on the end of something, such as a match, and then adhere it to the key. Again, DO NOT try this method if the broken key in the lock is not visible or easy to access.

4. Bottom Line

You’re going to be frustrated, and you probably won’t have the best of luck getting that key out if you can’t see a piece of it hanging out of the lock. If you’ve exhausted your methods and your patience is wearing thing, please be sure to contact 24/7 Emergency Locksmith!

How to Protect Your Car from Being Broken Into from 24/7 Emergency Locksmith of the Lehigh Valley

24/7 Emergency Locksmith of the Lehigh Valley is there when you need us for any type of lockout situation. But, we’re also the type of company that doesn’t want to see you get into a bad situation, either.

Here are a few ways to keep your car safe from being broken into. Of course, if you need us, just call us at (484) 891-1922.

Remove Valuables from your Car

One of the most frequent reasons for thieves to target a car is the simple fact that they see something in the car through the window. Remove any sort of valuable item from your car before you leave it. If you have to leave any valuable items in your car, be sure to cover them up or put them in a space that is not visible.

Protect Your Car

Most modern cars already come with some sort of alarm system. Be sure to lock and/or alarm your car before you leave it.

Fake It

If you don’t have a car that has a security system, that’s no problem. Just get a sticker that says that you have one. Believe it or not, if your car has a sticker on it that says that is its protected by a security system, there are much higher odds that a thief will pass it over.

Tint Your Windows

Tinting your windows doesn’t just make you “cool” it also keeps people from seeing what is inside your vehicle. As long as you’re installing tint that is within your state’s code, go for it.

Park in a Well Lit Place

Let’s be honest, a thief is going to attempt to break into a car if it’s in a dark area much more frequently than if it’s in a well-lit one. Park your car in as well-lit of an area as you can.

Be sure to call us if you need help in a lockout situation at (484) 891-1922!

How to Prep You Car for Long Term Storage

There are a variety of reasons you may need to prep your car (or a car) for long term storage. Perhaps you’re going away for an extended period of time or your college age child is off to school for a semester and they won’t be using it. Whatever the reason, there are a few tips you can follow to make sure your car is safe during a longer than usual period of no use.

Firstly, let’s be sure that you keep the keys somewhere safe. While we will come out to help you any time you’re in a lock out situation, storing your keys in an easily accessible area is smart.

Cover it Up

Keeping your vehicle covered takes away a lot of headache if you need to leave it for awhile. Keeping it in a garage is ideal, but if you have to leave it outside, be sure to grab an all purpose cover.

Fill the Tank and Change the Oil

If you’re storing the car for longer than 30 days, be sure to top off the gas to keep moisture from accumulating, and change the oil. It will keep your car ready for you when it’s time to fire it up again.

Keep the Battery Charged

We all know that an unattended battery will slowly loose it’s charge. If you can start the car (or have someone doing it for you) for 15 minutes every two weeks, you can maintain the battery life and have it ready to go when you’re ready to use the car full-time again.

Maintain the Insurance

It might seem like a good time to cancel your car insurance if you don’t plan on using the car for awhile. However, there is a chance that your insurance company could raise your rates for the gap in coverage. Also, if you’re ever in a situation when you need to use the car unexpectedly, it’s good to have it covered.

Be sure to call us for you any of your lockout needs in the Lehigh Valley area (484) 891-1922!

The Hardest Cars to Break Into

While we’d never use our powers for evil, there are still people out there who make breaking into cars a habit.

Here are some of the cars that are the hardest to break into. If you own one and get locked out, though, don’t worry, we’ll get you back on the road in no time.

BMW and Mercedes

Both of these higher end cars use double locking mechanisms that make them pretty difficult to break in. Even if you break the window, you can’t open the door from the inside on many models. Play it safe and make sure you have spares available.

Honnda Accord

A Honda Accord? Yep. While these may not be BMWs or Mercedes, they do present a unique problem with their build. The space between the auto body and the door on these cars is very narrow, making it difficult to break into by trying to unlock the door.

Lexus

Maybe not surprisingly, Lexus cars are difficult to break into because the button in the door frame is designed to drop down quickly after it is lifted.

No matter what car you have, though, we’ll be able to help you out if you’re ever in a lockout situation. Be sure to save our number!
