Car door lock repair in the Lehigh Valley

Most drivers unlock with the remote and never touch the door lock, until the fob battery dies and the key won’t turn. Car door locks seize from lack of use, wear out from heavy use, and get damaged in break-in attempts. We come to the car and repair the lock where it’s parked.

Signs a car lock needs attention:

  • The key is hard to insert or won’t go in all the way
  • The key has to be jiggled to turn
  • The key turns but the door doesn’t unlock
  • The lock was damaged by a break-in attempt

What we do

We find out if the fault is in the lock cylinder, the key or the linkage inside the door. A worn key is the simplest fix and is ruled out first. If the cylinder is the problem we repair or replace it, and we can match it to your existing key where the vehicle allows.

Trunk locks and ignitions fail the same way. For a key that won’t turn in the ignition, see ignition repair. If the key snapped off in the lock, see broken car key extraction.

Why car door locks fail

A door lock is a small cylinder full of thin brass wafers. Dirt, road salt and years of sitting unused make the wafers stick, and then the key won’t slide in or turn. Pennsylvania winters speed this up.

After a break-in attempt the damage is different. A screwdriver forced into the lock bends the wafers and the cylinder face. In that case we replace the cylinder and set it to your existing key where the vehicle allows, so you aren’t carrying one key for the door and another for the ignition.
