Unlike traditional keys most newer Toyotas now use special, high security keys that do not have the same cuts on the top and bottom as previous years.  The cuts are precision milled from the outer edge of the key forming a track the internal components of your car’s locks use to allow the lock to turn with that key. Since these newer keys cannot be cut with the usual traditional key cutting equipment, they require a special high security key cutting machine to make the precise and correct cuts. Most Toyotas models made after the year 1998 now come equipped with an extra layer of security called the immobilizer. This allows the car to communicate with a special chip that can be found inside your car key. The key will need to respond with a recognized code or the car will not start if the key turns in the ignition.

We are able to erase the old key in order to prevent anyone who might have stolen or found you lost key when we program in a new car key. This will prevent anyone from being able to take your car if they find the old key.  We can also add an additional layer of security by changing the wafers inside the door locks so that the lost key will not be able to turn in the locks.
