GMC Truck and SUV Key Replacement

Sierra, Yukon, Acadia, Terrain, Canyon, Envoy. If it’s a GMC, there’s a good chance we have the key for it in the van. We cut and program at your location as part of our car key replacement service.

A lost truck key can stall a workday or a job site. Call with the year and model, and we’ll head your way with the right key.

What a GMC key looks like depends on its age. Older trucks take a plain double-sided key. Later ones have a chip in the head, then came flip keys with a side-milled blade, and many current models use a push-button fob. We cut and program each kind from the van.

Lost or Stolen GMC Keys

With all keys lost, we make a new one from the truck. The cuts come from the lock or the key code, and no original is needed.

On chip-key models, the truck’s computer has to learn the new key. We connect a programmer and add the key so the engine will start and keep running.

The same step lets us remove a lost or stolen key from the system. That key can’t start the truck afterward.

If you want the old key shut out of the doors too, we rekey the locks by changing the wafers inside. One set of new keys then works everything.

Broken GMC Keys

A broken key is a head start for us. The pieces show the cuts, and we transfer them to a new blank.

If the ignition was already stiff before the key broke, mention it. A worn cylinder chews up keys, and we can service it during the same visit. See ignition repair.

Call (484) 891-1922 with the year, make and model of the truck for pricing and availability. We’ll also give an estimated time of arrival, with no extra charge for an emergency.

Keeping Your GMC Keys Working

A few habits help. Keep the key ring light, since a heavy ring wears the ignition. Replace the fob battery when the range starts to drop. And have a spare made while you still have a working key, because copying one is much less work than replacing one that’s gone. We come to your GMC wherever it’s parked in the Lehigh Valley. Our service area page lists each town.

Which GMC Models We Cover

We see these GMC models more than any others. A model that isn’t named here may still be one we cover, so call and ask.

Models

Sierra, Yukon, Acadia, Terrain, Canyon, Envoy, Savana, Jimmy and Sonoma.

Before you call

Three things speed it up: the year and model, the location of the car, and whether you have one working key or none. Then we can go over our pricing structure and check availability right away. We confirm lawful possession of the car as part of the job.

GMC Keys: Quick Answers

Is it easier to get a second GMC key while I still have one?

Yes, and it is the best time to do it. We duplicate the blade from your key and pair the new one to the car, so you are never down to zero keys.

My GMC key won’t turn in the ignition. Is it the key?

It can be a worn key or a worn ignition cylinder. We check both, and we repair or replace ignition cylinders on site. See ignition repair.

What if the GMC key is in the car and the doors are locked?

Then you need the door opened, not a new key. We unlock the car and you carry on. Details are on our car lockout page.

Which key does my GMC take?

GMC follows the Chevrolet pattern year for year, since the Sierra, Terrain, Yukon and Acadia share their keys with the Silverado, Equinox, Tahoe and Traverse. The pattern for the GMCs we see most:

  • Sierra: 2007 to 2013, a chip key (the circle-plus key) with a separate remote. 2014 to 2018, a newer chip key with a remote. 2019 on, the base trims use a key with a remote; SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali use a push-button smart key.
  • Terrain: 2010 to 2017, a flip key with the remote built in. 2018 on, a smart key.
  • Yukon and Yukon XL: 2007 to 2014, a chip key with a remote. 2015 on, a smart key.
  • Acadia: 2007 to 2016, a chip key with a remote. 2017 on, a smart key.
  • Canyon: 2015 on, a key with a remote on the base trims and a smart key on the upper ones.

Give us the year, model and trim, or the VIN, and we confirm which one you have on the phone.

See the Chevrolet / GMC rows on our key chart for key type, chip, FCC ID and part numbers by year, model and trim.

I lost every key to my GMC. Can you still make one?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a GMC is done at the truck, including the smart-key models. Car keys are weekday work; call with the year, model and trim for pricing and availability.

Do you program the GMC push-button smart key?

Yes. We carry the smart keys for the Sierra, Terrain, Yukon and Acadia and pair them to the vehicle where it sits. A spare takes a few minutes if you still have a working key.

Does a GMC dealer have to make the key?

Almost never. The GMCs we see every week are done on site. On the newest model years we confirm on the phone before we drive. We confirm lawful possession of the vehicle as part of the job.
