A Time Before Car Keys

As you leave the store that you stopped at to pick up a few things after a long day at work, you get to you car only to realize you have locked your car keys inside. They are sitting right there, in the driver’s seat, mocking you with the unlock button glowing in the setting sun. This can truly ruin your day and can be a hassle to deal with, but 24/7 Emergency Locksmith is here to help.

We know the struggle of locking our car keys inside the car and when this happens, you want to get this fixed fast. If you find yourself in this situation, call us. We can be there faster than you would expect and help you get into your car and on your way home in no time.

While you wait for us to show up, take a moment to think about what life was like before the car key was invented. You may think that w

ithout car keys there were probably no cars and everyone continued to get around using horse and buggy. But this is not the case.

When cars first came into existence, the car key was not even thought about. You didn’t need keys to unlock you car, because you couldn’t even lock your car. Most cars were topless and honestly, quite easy to steal.

If there were no car keys, how did someone start the car? There was a starter lever, a long bar that has a head and socket system that fit to your engine. They would have to crank this a few times to get the car started. The process required strength and patience and had to be done physically, every single time.

This means running to the store quickly wouldn’t be easy, a drive could not just get in and go. And as engines progressed, this cranking task got more difficult and physically demanding. This also made it easier for someone to simply take your car. According to expressautokeys.co.uk, Henry Ford used to chain his car to a lamppost with a padlock every time he parked so that it could not get stolen. The same as you would do with a bike!

So as you sit here, waiting for 24/7 Emergency Locksmith to come and help you get back into your car, just be thankful that you can simple start your car with the turn of a key and that you don’t have to chain it to a lamppost to ensure no one steals it. Contact us today to get help getting back into your car!

How Automotive Locksmiths Replace Car Keys, And Cut Them On Site.

When requesting car or motorcycle key replacement, the most commonly asked question is “what do we need”.  You need three things, the exact physical address of the vehicle, a state or federal ID, and a vehicle document which matches that state or federal ID.  We don’t request these things to make your key replacement more difficult, but for the speed of your service, and protection of your property.  Once we verify ownership, we need to discover the cuts of your car key.  The cuts of your key are the groves in your key which correspond to wafers or pins in your lock and allow the lock cylinder to turn.

There are several methods an automotive locksmith has at their disposal.  The first of which is to order your cut code by Vin Number, but only authorized locksmiths can use this method for certain brands of cars, Ford, GM, and Chrysler being the main ones that often require licensing through Nastf(National Automotive Service Task Force).  Here at 24/7 Emergency Locksmith we are licensed through Nastf, and as a result very seldom are unable to attain cut codes for vehicles by Vin number.  Nastf also requires a positive ID form to be filled out for every cut code attained through their service.  Which is one reason it is so important that you or someone else present is the legally recognized and documented owner of the vehicle.  If your cut code isnt available for order either because its too old, the ordered cut code can be incorrect, or their simply may not be an available cut code for your vehicle.  We can always remove one of your locks, or use specialized tools and techniques to measure the wafers in the lock in order to produce a key.  The special tools we use in your locks often only work in the door or trunk locks, so its important that your door and ignition both use the same key.  Even then the door may not use all the cuts of your key, so if your key is an 8 cut key like a ford for instance.  We will pull 6 cuts from your door, and through a process of elimination and software to narrow down the results, discover the last 2 in order to create a fully functional car key replacement.

Once we have your cut code, we cut your keys using one of our mobile key cutting machines.  Most automotive locksmiths can only cut side cut, or non-high security car keys.  But we equip all our Mobile Automotive Locksmith Vans with CNC Milling, High security, or Laser Key Cutting Machines.  So no matter what kind of car key you’ve vehicle needs, 24/7 Emergency Locksmith has the capability to replace your car key.

24 hour locksmith Allentown

The Last step is programing cars ecu(Engine Control Unit) to accept this new car key replacement.  As far back as 98 the vast majority of cars have transponder keys.  A transponder key is a chipped key, that broadcasts a very long alpha numeric number which the car needs to detect before allowing the vehicle to start.  It is one more layer of security to prevent vehicle theft.  The misconception is that we program the key, but in actuality we are programing the cars computer to accept the code the key is transmitting.  For this we use a T-Code Pro, one of the best and most effective car key programming unit.  We plug our T-code into your cars OBD2 port and program the car to accept the key.  This is one reason hiring a professional and well equip locksmith is so important.  You do not want a poorly trained or ill equipped automotive locksmith plugging substandard electronic devices into your cars computer.

If you lose or break your car key, and find yourself in need of a replacement, make sure the automotive locksmith sells you branded keys, and uses state of the art equipment to program your cars computer.  When you call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith, you can feel confident that our Automotive Locksmith Specialists are well trained, and equipped with the most sophisticated equipment.  We are often on site in 20 minutes, and due to our high level of training and technological expertise, we can often produce your key in 5-10 minutes.  When you are in need of an Automotive locksmith call (484) 891 – 1922.  No Extra Charges for Emergency Services.

A Bad Place to Lose Your Car Keys

Car keys don’t seem like an important item in our lives. They help us start the engine of the object that gets us from point A to point B. But keys never become an important part of the equation, at least not until they go missing.

Losing your car keys can put a real damper on your day, cause you to be late to just about everything, and turn into a slight episode of panic. Most of the time, we lose our car keys in our home, in a purse, or in our friends car, which may be frustrating, but it is not the worse place to lose your keys.

Some car keys go unfound, leaving the owner helpless and worried. What are they going to do next? How are they going to get home or to work? If they have a spare, that would solve everything, the only problem now is locating the spare. We all keep our spare key in a safe space in case anything like this ever happens, but that safe space isn’t always memorable.

At 24/7 Emergency Locksmith, lost car keys and missing spares don’t have to make you worry. We can come to you, cut and program your new key, and have you on your way in no time. It really is that simple. If you are in the Allentown or Bethlehem area during your car key search, just remember we are here to help!

Everyone has lost their keys at least once in their life. But hopefully they are found in a few minutes. There are some places to lose your car keys that offer no hope of ever finding them again. While you fear your keys are forever lost in your house, just be glad you didn’t lose them in this horrible way:

The Mountain

Let’s say you and your friends go for a summer hike in the Appalachian or Pocono Mountains. You get to the top of your mighty climb, relax, pull your snacks and beverages out of your backpack, and rest before the journey down.

During hikes the trek down is always quicker than it is up, and you are thankful for that. You get to your car quicker than expected and pull off your backpack to grab your keys. It is at this moment that you realize you didn’t zip up the pockets all the way, causing the flap to hang down and the inside pocket where you left the keys to be turned upside down. You also realize your keys are no longer in this pocket.

Not only have you lost your keys, but you are not sure if you lost them at the top of the mountain or somewhere on the journey down. They literally could be anywhere on the path you took. Good luck finding them. Let the scavenger hunt begin!

But you have 24/7 Emergency Locksmith on your side! Call us to get the car keys you need right when you need them!

How to Break Into Your Car After Locking Yourself Out

You locked yourself out of the car. Now what? There are ways to break into your car and retrieve your keys that are so simple, they even do it in movies, if an actor can break into a car, so can you!

Now, you could do the smart thing and call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith, but that doesn’t make as exciting of a story, does it?

So let’s go back to breaking into your car. First off, make sure it is your car, do not go around breaking into other people’s cars, that will get you in trouble. We are trying to help you with your car problems, not get you in even more trouble. Only use these tips on your own car.

Method 1

The first step is to get the car door wedged away from the car. This means you need to have some sort of wedge, good luck finding something that will squeeze into that tight space between your car and the door to create an opening. You will also need a thin metal rod or something that you can slide into this crack and unlock the door. Don’t have a wedge type object or a rod? Well this is not the method you should use.

Method 2

You could call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith. They will be there as quickly as possible, no matter the time of the day, it’s even in their name. But this method has no risks, so we will move on.

Method 3

You could go with the window trick, which you typically see in movies. You somehow jimmy a metal rod, ruler, hanger, or something along those lines, in through the window and magically connect the end to the lock and voila, you are in. Oh, right you don’t have a rod or hanger or any other tool to jam in the window.

Method 4

Alright, this is a technical method. It takes skills, concentration, and patience. You are going to find something large, heavy even. The heavier the better. Then, with great force, throw this object straight at the window. With luck, it will shatter and you will be in your car! But you don’t want to shatter your window? Okay, let’s go to the last method.

Method 5

Call 24/7 Emergency Locksmith! This is the best way to get into a car after locking yourself out. It’s fool proof, requires minimal instructions or tools, and will get you on the road again without injuring yourself or your car.

If you ever lock your keys in the car, don’t fuss with trying to break into your car on your own. 24/7 Emergency Locksmith can help you in no time. Give us a call to get help now!

Car Locks and the Cold

banner2888

Nothing is worse than locking yourself out of your car, except maybe locking yourself out of your car during a snowstorm. In this case your best option is to call a locksmith. With the right tools and training they can help you get in your car and out of the cold in no time.

But what if you don’t actually lock yourself out? What if your car is just too cold to unlock?

When the temperature outside drops below zero there is a chance the lock on your car will freeze shut. Moisture can get into the lock making it impossible to even turn the lock with your key. The cold could also cause your remote key to not function properly.

feat5544During this type of issue, you might not know the best approach to unlocking your car and getting out of the cold. One thing that could help is warming your key. If you carefully hold it over a flame for a second you should be able to get it into the lock, now you just need to make sure you always have a lighter on you during the cold months. Or if your car has a remote-start, use that. It should help heat your car and may unfreeze the locks on the door. After some warming up you should be able to get into your car and out of the cold.

It is also during the winter that people start their cars to heat them up and run inside to finish getting everything together before running off to work. What happens when your car decides to lock you out when this happens, with the keys in the ignition, your gas being wasted, and the minutes ticking by before you are supposed to be at work? This is another instance you should call a locksmith.

24/7 Emergency Locksmith, Inc. is here for you when you need it. We are committed to helping you quickly, and get you on your way. If you are having a lock problem, we can solve it.

Tips to Help You Remember Your Keys

24 hour locksmith AllentownOur 24-hour locksmith service in Allentown receives calls every day from people who have forgotten their keys and locked themselves out of their home, office, or vehicle. It’s easier to do than you might imagine, but for some people forgetting their keys is a chronic issue. If you feel like you are always leaving your keys behind, we have some tips that can help you remember to grab those keys when you head out the door!

Use These Tips to Keep Your Keys Close

Always put them in the same place.

We’re creatures of habit. If you put your keys in the same place every day and make a point to pick them up from there before you head out the door for 30 days in a row, before you know it the action will just become a habit. Set up a key rack by your front door or have a bowl where your keys always go when you walk inside.

Put a post-it note on the back of the door.

Make a brightly colored reminder and put it on the back of your door or other location where you won’t miss it before you head out. Make yourself read the note fully and check that you have each item on the list. Useful for remembering things like wallets and umbrellas, too!

Add a clip to attach to something you never forget.

While many of us will forget our keys, for some reason we never forget our phones! Or maybe you don’t go anywhere without your trusted Kindle. Or perhaps it’s the baby seat you wouldn’t leave behind. Whatever it is, add a carabiner clip to your keys and attach them to that thing you don’t leave the house without.

Call Our Team When You Are Locked Out

Even if you put all of our tips into action, chances are you’ll end up forgetting your keys from time to time. That’s okay! When you do, just give our 24-hour locksmith in Allentown a call. We can be on site in 20 minutes or less so your day isn’t ruined because you forgot your keys. Get in touch with us today by filling out the form below!
